Residents evacuated after fire breaks out at an apartment block in Sliema

A fire which broke out at a private residence in Bisazza street, Sliema led to 12 people having to be evacuated from their homes and given medical assistance because of the smoke they had inhaled.

The incident happened last night in a block of apartments where it is believed that the fire was caused as a result of a fault in the electricity system.

Firefighters from the Civil Protection Department were on the scene to control the flames.
