Restaurant and bar owners in Italy defy imposed restrictions and open

In Italy, restaurant and bar owners are angered at restrictions and measures ordered by the Government because of the pandemic that obliges them to close at 6 pm but defied the imposed restrictions and yesterday opened in Milan and Venice as part of a national protest against these measures.

Under the banner of ‘Io Apro’ (I will open), the protest demonstration is by owners of commercial establishments experiencing difficulties in the continuation of their commercial activities and struggling to remain open, while the Government is expected to announce even further measures.

Among the owners are some that stated they will comply with the restrictions but only if they are provided with logical reasons why at the same time public transport and supermarkets are being allowed to operate without any restrictions.

Catering associations have condemned the actions taken and said that protests cannot be based on breaking the Law.

Videos posted on social media show people enjoying themselves and dancing in restaurant while Police are seen entering and handing out fines.
