The death has been announced of Renzo Gauci, the restoration expert and sculptor who was well-known for the work he carried out on various statues.
Gauci was 59 years old and died following a short battle with cancer. Renzo Gauci was born in Tarxien and was passionate about art from the time he was a young boy.
He was particularly known for his wooden sculptures, but was also sought after for his work on statues made from papier mache. His works include the cradle he made for the statue of the Madonna tal-Karmnu for the Fgura parish, the niche for the statue of Maria Regina in Marsa and other work for the Church of the Madonna tal-Pilar in Valletta.
