From Court to prison and found to be possessing drugs and carrying 13 mobile ‘phones

A 34-year-old man from Togo, who had been given a prison sentence after trying to leave Malta with a false passport, has been found to be in possession of drugs.

The drugs were detected by the Kordin Corrective Facility scanner as soon as the man mounted the doorstep after leaving Court where together with eight other men he had been sentenced to imprisonment for six months, all with similar charges.

The substance found in his possession is probably cannabis resin. When officials carried out a search of his suitcase they also found 13 mobile ‘phones.

The prison authorities informed Police who are carrying out investigations.
