Robert Abela elected Labour Party leader – to be sworn in as PM on Monday

Robert Abela won Saturday’s election for the post of Prime Minister and Labour Party new leader with 57.9% of the votes.

Initial indications in the contest for the party leadership between Robert Abela and Chris Fearne showed that Dr Abela had achieved an advantage of votes over Dr Fearne.

Abela won a total of 9,342 votes of the party members – an advantage of 2,544 votes over Chris Fearne who won a total of
6,798 votes.

Dr Abela will now be the ninth leader of the Labour Party and he is expected to be officially appointed as Prime Minister tomorrow Monday during a swearing-in ceremony at the Presidential Palace.
