The main runway at Malta International Airport was shut down this morning following an incident involving a light aircraft.
A spokesperson for MIA said in a statement that the incident occurred at 8.45 a.m., and the two persons on board did not sustain any injuries.
TVM is informed the aircraft is owned by one of the pilot instruction schools, and the incident occurred during touchdown on the runway when the aircraft ended up on the grass verge.
Firemen went on-site to render immediate assistance and control the situation. MIA said it is investigating the incident.
No flights were affected, as a secondary runway was used instead. The MIA spokesperson added that every effort is being made to ensure no flights are delayed.
