Russia: Journalist arrested on attempted drug trafficking

A Russian investigative journalist, Ivan Golunov, was arrested in Moscow on charges of attempting to traffic in drugs. He was arrested at his residence. Earlier, the journalist was examined after reports that he was injured during the arrest.

The journalist, who works for the Meduza news agency based in Latvia, was arrested on Thursday. His lawyer said that the drugs were placed on him, an accusation which was denied by Russian authorities. Meduza reported that 36-year old Golunov is facing persecution due to his journalistic reporting.
