Much-loved priest dies in the United States – a tribute to Fr Nicholas Cachia
This evening the death has been announced of Fr Nicholas Cachia, at the age of 59, a Maltese priest who was serving as a spiritual director at a Seminary in the United States. He passed away at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Florida, Miami.
Fr Nicholas Cachia, from Siġġiewi, was ordained to the Priesthood 33 years ago. For many years he gave pastoral services of the Church in Malta and among others held the post of Executive Chairman of Media Centre and Radju RTK. He was also a lecturer in spiritual theology at Malta University.
Fr Nicholas Cachia was Spiritual Director at the Archbishops’ Seminary at tal-Virtù and much sought after for direction and spiritual advice from seminarists, members of the clergy and lay members.
He was also a media commentator on religious events. On Television Malta he delivered the commentary of the Holy Mass of the last Papal visit to Malta. On that day, Pope Benedict XVI celebrated Holy Mass on the Granaries at Floriana. He was also the commentator of the inaugural Holy Mass of the Pontificating of Pope Francis on 19th March, 2013.
Shortly after, he served as a Professor at the St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary in Florida, in the United States.
