Scores of baby turtles hatch during the night at Ramla l-Ħamra

Shortly before 2.00 this morning, volunteers of Nature Trust – FEE Malta organisation assisted to a unique scene at Gozo’s Ramla l-Ħamra when the first turtle hatchlings emerged from eggs following days of tension.

Nature Trust-FEE said that by 6.45 this morning some 62 baby turtles had hatched.

Environment and Resources Authority stated that the organisation informed it immediately when the hatching started and that Nature Trust had monitored their entry into the sea.

It added that when baby turtles hatch they are attracted by the moon light which is reflected on the sea, prompting their instinct to follow the light.
