Scotland Yard officials in Malta

Officials of financial services regulatory authorities and from the Police Force were trained by Scotland Yard Metropolitan Police in the fight against money laundering for terrorism financing.

Finance Minister Edward Scicluna said that the Government accepted an offer by the British Home Office to train Maltese officers to analyse and discuss case studies. Prof. Scicluna stated that the training forms part of the Government’s commitment to continue fighting money laundering.

Minister Scicluna added that the Cabinet does not exclude the setting up of a specialised agency to fight organised crime. While not divulging detail on when such an authority starts functioning, the Minister said that talks are being held with the UK Home Office to establish an ideal model for the functioning of this agency.
