A shocking discovery, which came about by chance, was made when a shark was caught in order to carry out research into this species.
A wedding ring was found in the shark’s stomach which was confirmed to belong to a Scottish tourist who had disappeared while swimming on holiday in Reunion, an island near Madagascar.
The man, 44, probably died after he was attacked by the tiger shark because inside the shark’s stomach the researchers found a hand which was identified thanks to the wedding ring.
The man was on holiday with his wife in Saint Gilles before the tragedy occurred.
A resident of the island said that there are various signs warning tourists about the possible dangers in the sea because several people have been victims of shark attacks in the past.
It is not yet known whether the tourist drowned or was first attacked but the shark.
