Six months’ jail for people who travelled to Malta with fake documents

The Police are investigating what led to Yousef Hammat, an Algerian, aged 29, who lives in Athens and Mohammed Lassad Briki, a Libyan man, 36, also resident in Athens, to travel to Malta on their way to Belgium with fake identity documents.

The two men were with two women of Turkish nationality, Rabia Yavuz, 28, and Muzekka Deneri, 29, who between them had six documents with false identities.  Their real identity documents were also found on their person. They were travelling with two young boys, ages 4 and 2, who could be heard crying throughout the hearing.

The defence said that the women were fleeing Turkey with their children for political reasons. They pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them and were handed a six month prison sentence. The Court also ordered the confiscation of their fake documents.
