Nuns request arrest of a Bishop who raped another nun

Five nuns in the State or Kerala in India are urging the arrest of a Bishop who is being accused of the repetitive rape of another nun over a period of two years.

The case happened in the southern part of the State of Kerala and has attracted the attention of international media because rarely do nuns accuse their superior of any wrongdoing in public, even more, a case of rape.

The five sisters protested in front of the Kerala Court where the case of Bishop Franco Mulakkal is being heard.

Since Saturday’s demonstration there have been 1oo declarations of support from fellow citizens.

Differing from other areas in India, Kerala is an area which is mainly Christian.

The 44-year-old victim made a Police report in June accusing the Bishop of having raped her 13 times between 2014 and 2016.
