Spain: 5,000 people evacuated after volcano erupts on island of La Palma

In Spain, around 5,000 people had to be evacuated after a volcano erupted on the island of La Palma.

As a result of the volcano which last erupted 50 years ago, four villages had to be evacuated. In the city of El Paso, a number of homes ended covered with lava.

Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez visited La Palma  and explained that the authorities are closely following what is happening and called on the national guard and the military to assist.

To date no deaths were reported as a result of the volcano.
