Spain: Elderly couple killed after torrential rain sweeps their car away

An elderly couple in Eastern Spain was killed when floods caused by. heavy torrential rain swept away the car they were in and flipped it over. The victims, both aged 70, died in the region of Castilla La Mancha. In this region which neighbours Valencia, at least two rivers overflowed and this led to tens of people being evacuated.

The schools in Valencia and the region of Murcia were temporarily closed because the rain is expected to continue over the next few days. The authorities have advised residents to stay indoors if they live in affected areas where the bad weather has caused havoc to traffic, train schedules and the ports.
