Spectacular scenes show more than 12,000 flamingos gathered on rivers in Cyprus

These spectacular scenes show more than 12,000 flamingos which have turned the rivers of Cyprus into a thing of beauty.

The natural habitat of this Mediterranean island is considered to be a popular destination for this species of flamingos because of the rich environment, the food and the resting place which they need.

The rivers of Cyprus are an important source for flamingos particularly because they are full of shrimps, the consumption of which is crucial for these birds to retain their unique shade of pink.
