Study of people’s immunity will give a clearer picture of numbers of sick persons

A study which is being prepared on the immunity of the Maltese public is expected to give a clearer picture of the number of persons who have become ill.

This was stated today by Professor Charmine Gauci when asked by journalists whether tests should start being carried out within the community, as the number is increasing of persons carrying the virus without showing any symptoms.

Professor Gauci explained that the swab test pinpoints the virus if there are sufficient amounts in the throat, and random tests in the community will not necessarily give a clear picture.

Instead, the Superintendent added, the health authorities are preparing a study to check on people’s antibodies, and this will show how many have already been infected.
