Sudan in chaos amid military coup reports

The Sudanese military has taken over the country and arrested several members of the transitional government including Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok.

Pro-democracy groups in the country have taken to the streets of the capital Khartoum to protest against the coup. However those against the interim government came out in support of the army.

The army has been in conflict with the transitional government since it took over the country in 2019 after former leader Omar al-Bashir was ousted.

Khartoum Airport has been closed and international flights to and from the capital have been suspended.
