Sweden – two political parties are head to head in general election

The general elections in Sweden have resulted in two of the main political parties being head to head, with the anti-immigration party increasing its strength since the previous election. The Swedish Democratic Party obtained around 18%, 5% more than the last election.

With almost all the votes being counted, the centre-left coalition which had formed the Government, had a marginal advantage over the Centre-Right Alliance, with both of them obtaining around 40% of the vote.

The challenge will now be to form a coalition which can lead a government.
