18-year-old girl remanded in custody after she was seen shoplifting items from three shops

Heidi Jennifer Payne, an 18-year-old British teenager resident in Rabat, has been remanded in custody in connection with a number of thefts carried out in November of last year and in March this year.

After footage from CCTV cameras was elevated from a shopping complex in Tas-Sliema, it was established that the same girl, on different days, could be seen shoplifting clothes from three different shops in the same complex.

It resulted from further investigations that the same girl allegedly converted to her use over €10,000 in transactions to the detriment of the cryptocurrency company she used to work for.

When the teenager was arraigned in Court, Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech denied a request for bail and ordered that in view of the accused’s age,  she be detained in a youth section.
