Thailand: Tourist boat capsizes – tens of people dead and many missing

What was supposed to be a day out for tourists on board the boat, The Phoenix ended in tragedy after it capsized during a heavy storm which hit Phuket.

More than 20 tourists lost their lives and tens of others are missing after their boat capsized.

There were more than 105 tourists on board The Phoenix, most of whom were Chinese.

The rescue operation had to be suspended during the night, but has now been resumed.

Around 48 passengers were rescued by another boat which was sailing in same area.

Another boat which also capsized because of the storm was carrying 39 tourists, most of them European. Luckily, they were all rescued.

The authorities have opened an investigation to determine why these tourist boats still went out to sea despite the heavy storm.
