“The time has come for the elderly to stay inside”

Interviewed during the TVM evening news, the CEO of Social Care and Standards Authority, Matthew Vella, said the the time has come for the elderly to stay inside.

He said that does not have to mean isolation and appealed for everyone to have a strong community spirit and practice solidarity, especially with our own elderly relatives.

He said that the lack of visitors at the homes of the elderly was effective to cut down on the spread of Covid-19, and the fact that there are no confirmed cases of infection among the elderly people who live in these residences is proof of this.

He explained that it was a very difficult measure which was met with resistance, however video conferencing was introduced so that the residents could still stay in contact with their loved ones.
