Threatens war against Canada if it doesn’t take back waste sent to Philippines

Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte has threatened the Canadian Government with war unless they take back the waste Canada has sent to the Philippines.

Some 2,450 tons of waste were sent to the Philippines in 2013 and 2014, but when inspections were carried out, it was discovered that the waste was not all recyclable plastic, as originally planned.

The tons of waste have been declared illegal, and President Duterte is threatening to personally return the Canadian waste.

The President added he cannot understand why more developed countries are trying to destroy the Philippines and turn it into a rubbish dump.

Last year China refused to accept waste from other countries in an attempt to safeguard the environment.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he is working to find a solution.
