Three arrested in two anti-drug trafficking operations

Drug Squad Police have arrested three people in two separate drug trafficking operations.

The first operation took place yesterday in Qormi where after observing the movement of a 23 year old man living in Ħamrun the police surrounded the vehicle he was driving in Vjal De La Cruz.

The driver tried to escape and even crashed into a police vehicle but was arrested and a search of the vehicle yielded 230 packages, allegedly drugs, ready for trafficking.

In the second operation, which took place early this morning, the Police arrested a 29-year-old man who lives in Cospicua after he was also caught with drugs.

Police tried to stop him in Żabbar but the young man drove at high speed in the direction of Fgura until he was blocked in Vjal il-Cottoner.

He tried to escape again and ended up crashing into a police vehicle and two other private vehicles and was arrested. A considerable amount of cash was found in the car.

At the same time, Drug Squad police and those from the Rapid Intervention
surrounded a residence in Triq San Mikiel, Cospicua, where they arrested a 66-year-old man.

A search of the site found a considerable amount of cash as well as other items of value.

The three people are being held at the Police Headquarters and magisterial inquiries have been opened into these cases which are being led by Magistrate Josette Demicoli.
