Three youths arrested in connection with vandal act on Marsascala St Anthony statue
Three youths have been arrested in connection with a vandal act carried out on a religious statue in the Marsascala Family Park.
The Police said in a statement that after days of investigation they had identified a 19-year-old French youth, an 18-year-old English youth and a 17-year-old Maltese girl, who are suspected with having carried out the act.
The girl was arrested yesterday evening and the two youths were arrested this afternoon.
It resulted from investigations that the case occurred on 6 October at about 9.30 p.m.
The statue, which is on the parvis of the chapel dedicated to St Anthony of Padova, was vandalised, and the head of St Anthony as well as the head and arms of the infant Jesus, were broken off.
The St Anthony statue falls under the Cultural Heritage Act, and investigations were carried out by the Cultural Heritage Section within the Police Major Crimes Squad.
