U.S. President Donald Trump, who is in Davos for the World Economic Forum, is facing two serious accusations in the Senate in Washington, which will determine whether he is removed from President.
Trump is being accused of abusing with his powers to gain advantage over his political rival and of disrupting the congress work to undermine an investigation against him when he did not permit White House officers to testify in proceedings against him.
The final decision is in the hands of Senators after the House of Representatives voted in favour of impeachment procedures against the President.
President Trump is being assisted by a strong team of lawyers to defend him, despite that his Republican Party has a majority of members in the Senate. None of the 53 Republican senators has declared that they will vote for Trump’s removal.
Republican senator Mitch McConnell has angered Democrats when he announced that the Senate’s proceedings should not take more than 24 hours spread on two days. Democrats are accusing him of trying to move the process swiftly so that Trump is freed.
Trump’s legal team is arguing that the Democrats will create a dangerous precedent and weaken the presidency, adding that the accusations are politically motivated.
