Two American youths have been sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of murdering an Italian Police officer in 2019.
35-year-old Marco Ceriello Rega was killed after suffering 11 stab wounds in Rome when he and a colleague went to investigate a case involving the sale of drugs.
The two officers were in plain clothes, and 21-year-old Finnegan Lee Elder and 20-year-old Gabriel Natale-Hjorth insisted the officers had not identified themselves, and the youths thought they were pushers who were attacking them.
Rega’s colleague denied, however, that they had not identified themselves.
The case drew attention both in Italy and in the US, even because when the crime was committed the youths were aged 18 and 19.
