Over the weekend, two people who were illegally trapping for songbirds were arrested after an investigation by the Committee against Bird Slaughter (CABS). The investigation led to the discovery of 25 live birds.
CABS said that in the first case, ALE police caught a trapper redhanded while he was trapping in Pembroke, following a report made to CABS. Here ten birds were found as well as well as material used for trapping which was confiscated by the police. On the same day, another trapper was noticed in the area of Salini which was armed with 15 cages containing songbirds. Whens eh police arrived he fled from the scene, however, according to CAPS the place later said the they had identified him from his license plates.
Meanwhile in the Gozo Court, a man from Għajnsielem was found guilty of illegal trapping. He was ordered to pay a fine of €700 and had his trapping license suspended for two years.
