Union orders workers not to change nappies of elderly patients

The Health Commissioner has condemned the latest in a series of industrial actions at hospitals and residential homes which will affect the health of the elderly, especially those who suffer from incontinence.

In a statement, the Health Commissioner within the Office of the Ombudsman said that although last week it had condemned similar industrial action, another union has now gone one step further and issued directives not only not to wash and lift the patients and residents, but has even instructed them not to change their nappies.

While it did not mention the name of the union, the Health Commissioner once again condemned these directives without reservation which he said go against the dignity of the person, and that these are direct attacks against those who are most vulnerable.
