Up-dated: PN calls for PM reaction to Caruana Galizia allegations

The Nationalist Party has called on the Prime Minister to declare his position on allegations made by blogger Daphne Caruana Galizia regarding Minister Chris Cardona.

PN Deputy Leader Beppe Fenech Adami referred to the allegations that Dr Cardona was using a Portomaso apartment free of charge and that during work he was seen in a bar frequented by persons with criminal conduct.

He said that in Parliament, both the Prime Minister and Minister Cardona did not reply to these allegations.  Dr Fenech Adami said that the leasing contract at Portomaso that Minister Cardona published yesterday evening is not credible.  This contract, he said, raised more questions than answers, such as that the lease is paid at the end of the contract.

Shadow Minister Claudio Grech stressed the importance of a clarification regarding the allegations, so that he said doubts are not directed to the ministry run by Dr Cardona, especially when he is the person in continuous contact with businessmen.

Reacting to the comments, the Economy Ministry said that Dr Fenech Adami tried to invent new doubts on the contract, while repeating the allegations of blogger Caruana Galizia which have already been refuted even by the publication of the lease contract.  It said that this effectively nullifies any speculation that was made.

The Ministry said that with these allegations the Opposition formalised the association between the Nationalist Party and blogger Caruana Galizia.
