UPDATE: 150kg of drugs found hidden on cargo ship

150 kilograms of cannabis drugs were seized on a cargo ship during a joint Police-Customs operation.

The drugs were found on Panama-registered vessel, whose route includes various countries around the world.

TVM is informed that it was the ship’s crew members themselves who were suspicious about packages wrapped in plastic found at the bottom of the ship’s tanks. They took the packages to the captain who immediately informed the Police and Customs Department.

Investigations which were carried out indicate that the drugs were not intended for the local market.

Duty magistrate Dr Yana Micallef Stafrace appointed various experts for the necessary inquiry.
