The group calling itself the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the Istanbul night club attack on New Year’s Eve, which left 39 people dead. IS said that the attack was carried out by a ‘heroic soldier’.
The Turkish media reported that the terrorist fired no less than 180 bullets from a firearm he brought out from a taxi luggage boot as he arrived in front of the Reina entertainment club where he carried out the attack.
Meanwhile, an intensive search is still underway for the aggressor who killed the 39 people at the Istanbul nightclub. The armed man opened fire at the popular nightclub which was filled with people celebrating the beginning of the new year. The man managed to escape after injuring a further 70 people.
To date, the identity of the man is still not known.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the aim of such attacks is to create chaos in the country.
More than half of the victims who lost their lives in the attack – which lasted seven minutes – were tourists.
