UPDATED: 23-year-old man stabbed to death in the chest with knife in Marsa – aggressor arrested shortly afterwards
A 23-year-old man from Ghana was killed in cold blood between Thursday night and Friday morning in Marsa, after he was stabbed three times in the chest with a knife. The prime suspect, a 25-year-old man, also from Ghana, was arrested shortly afterwards in Marsa after being identified by the Police.
The murder took place at around 10am in Triq il-Ġerrejja when the argument broke out between the two men, both of foreign nationality. One of them ended up laying on the pavement after being stabbed several times.
The Police said that the victim was found laying in a pool of blood, face upwards and unconscious. The efforts by nurses and doctors to revive him were in vain as he died shortly afterwards.
The Homicide Squad within the Major Crimes Unit, together with Police from the Rapid Intervention Unit immediately launched a search for the alleged aggressor after they were given a description. With this information in hand, the Police managed to locate the aggressor at around 1.30am and surrounded his home in Triq Azzopardi, Marsa. The Police entered the premises and found the alleged aggressor trying to escape from the roof. They gave chase and arrested him.
Shortly afterwards, the Police also found the murder weapon, which had been discarded among the trees in Triq il-Jum. the alleged aggressor was taken to the Hamrun Police station and later to the Police HQ in Floriana for further interrogation.
A Magisterial inquiry led by the Duty Magistrate Dr Gabriella Vella has been opened, who has appointed several experts to assist in the case.
