UPDATED: Area near Barcelona cathedral evacuated because of suspicious van

Last night, the Police in Catalonya had to evacuate a street near the Sagrada Familia basilica in Barcelona because of a bomb threat.

At around 9pm, the Police closed the street as well as the surrounding streets afters a white van parked near the Church for a long period of time gave rise to suspicions. Officials from the bomb squad went on the scene to inspect the van.

An hour later the Spanish police issued a statement saying that it was a false alarm. It added that despite the fact that on social media it was reported that a man had been arrested, no one had been arrested.

Following the attack which took place a few weeks ago at Las Ramblas, it was revealed that the Sagrada Familia basilica was on the list of tourist sites which was being targetted by terrorists.
