UPDATED: Man caught with 23kg of cannabis at San Ġwann remanded in custody

28-year old Justin Farrugia from Valletta was remanded in custody after being accused in Court with twelve indictments including possessing some 23 kg of cannabis ready for trafficking, 100 grams of cocaine and €45,000 in cash.

He is also accused with negligently and dangerously driving a car without a licence, and causing damages to other vehicles. Farrugia is also accused of violently resisting three police officers.

The accused, who is a relapser, chose not to answer to any question in Court.

The prosecuting Inspector Jonathan Cassar testified before Magistrate Simone Grech that anti-drug squad officers were following the accused after he came out driving from a garages block, and had to stop as he entered in a one-way road and collided with another car. The Inspector added that money and cocaine were found in a garage, while cannabis was found in the vehicle.

The Court upheld a prosecution’s request to sequestrate the money or all immovables belonging or property of the accused, and that the accused will not be able to transfer or dispose of them.

Dr Arthur Azzopardi is appearing for the accused.

In a statement before the arraignment of Farrugia, the Police stated that the man was stopped on Monday while he was driving at San Ġwann. Officers found some 23 kg of cannabis, 100 grams of cocaine and €45,000 in cash money. An inquiry was appointed on the case by Magistrate Rachel Montebello.
