Two persons were admitted to hospital this morning following a collision at Birżebbuġa. The Police said they were informed about the accident at Triq Għar Dalam at 6.30am.
The head-on collision occurred between a Mazda Demio, driven by a 49-year old Briton, who had a 22-year-old Surinam youth as a passenger, and a Toyota driven by a 28-year old Eritrean from Birżebbuġa.
TVM is informed that the Toyota car is a taxi which was being driven towards Birżebbuġa, while witnesses said the Mazda car emerged from a secondary road.
Police and Civil Protection personnel went to the scene of the accident, and the Mazda’s centre pillar had to be removed for the driver to be brought out.
The two persons in the Mazda were transferred by ambulance to Mater Dei, where the driver was certified to be grievously injured. The passenger sustained slight injuries.
The road had to be closed to traffic for some time.
