US Government approves Pfizer vaccine for children in the 5 to 11 age group
The US Government has given its approval for the Covid-19 vaccine manufactured by Pfizer/BioNTech to also start being given to children between the ages of 5 and 11 years. This vaccine is already being given to children over the age of 12 years,
The US Government vote was taken after the Food and Drug Administration, FDA, approved this decision with the aim of providing emergency authorisation.
The company stated in September it had resulted from their tests that the vaccine was safe for children in this age group.
The Government’s decision now had to be approved by the regulatory American FDA and CDC authorities, with vaccinations for children possibly starting to be administered from the middle of next week.
