US warns of sanctions against the International Court of Justice

The US has warned that it will impose sanctions against the International Court of Justice if it proceeds against American citizens. At the moment, the ICJ at The Hague is considering charging a number of American military officials for allegedly abusing an Afghan man who was being held by the US military forces.

The US national security consultant, John Bolton, described the Court as illegitimate and warned that the US will do everything possible to protect its citizens. The US is one of a number of countries which did not join the International Court of Justice which was set up in 2002.

Bolton said that the Judges at The Hague will not be allowed to enter the US while their funds in the US will have sanctions imposed on them, and legal action is even going to be taken against them within the American criminal justice system.
