USA: Stay of execution for death-row’s Lisa Montgomery
The Court has stayed the execution of 52-year-old Lisa Montgomery, hours before she was to be given the lethal injection in a prison in Indiana, USA.
Montgomery was the only woman waiting to receive a death sentence handed down by the Federal court, after she was found guilty of killing a pregnant woman in 2004 and severing her baby from her womb.
Judge James Hanlon stated that a hearing on Montgomery’s competence should be held before the execution, as defense attorneys have argued that she was not mentally stable and was born with a brain injury.
