Better use of social media and opening of more servizz.gov centres over the coming five years
The extension of an agreement for the next five years has been made on the strategic partnership between the Public Service and centrecom. The agreement conceives further extension on the services given by servizz.gov, together with an improved quality of service.
Service hours that are more relative to public needs, better use of social media and the opening of more centres in Malta and Gozo will be strategic aims for the Public Service over the coming five years.
The Principle Permanent Secretary, Mario Cutajar, said the Public Service will equip itself and strengthen its managerial resource, including the appointment of a Board of Directors. He said he will assume new responsibilities including the coordination of investment initiatives in technology throughout the Public Service.
He said a greater presence on social media is necessary to enable the public to express its views about the services while services may also be extended via social media. He said investment is needed to increase hubs and immediately, work is to begin with the operation of 23 hubs throughout Malta.
Cutajar said the pandemic underlined the level of improvement in the Public Service that conveyed services to residences resulting from technological investment. He said he wanted to achieve remote working where an employee is able to work from any locality.
He said “hot desks” have to be created in regions to enable employees to work from there if not from home. However, remote working should not decrease human contact because that would be detrimental to team work.
During the signing of the five-year extension between the Public Service and centrecom, Cutajar reviewed the achievements over the last five years. He said that five years ago the number 153 could not cope with 2,500 monthly telephone calls. However, last year, more than 600,000 calls were dealt with. He said that under one roof the number of services offered had been increased from 250 to 1,200.
