Valletta man apprehended with 1,800 grams of cocaine valued at €100,000

A 32-year-old man from Valletta has been arrested in an operation by the Anti-Drug Squad, assisted by Rapid Intervention Unit officers, in connection with drug trafficking.

The Police said in a statement that following days of observation, they stopped a vehicle yesterday in Borg Street, Birkirkara which was being driven by the suspect.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of some 1.8 kg of a white substance, allegedly cocaine, as well as an amount of cash.

The street value, had the cocaine been sold, would have been just over 100,000 euro.

Duty Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras was notified and set up an inquiry. The man is expected to be arraigned this afternoon before Duty Magistrate Marseann Farrugia.

Police investigations are ongoing.
