It’s not everyday that you get to see a whale. A Gozitan girl was lucky enough to behold this majestic sight and creature limits of Sanap Cliffs in Gozo.
The video clip of the Fin whale off Munxar was shared on Facebook by Melania Bajada. The whale can be seen on the surface of the water, coming up for air. This type of whale can grow to be 25 metres long and swim at a speed of 30 km per hour.
While more often than not they swim in the deep, these whales are sometimes seen swimming in relatively shallow sea.
In the Mediterranean, these whales are mostly seen in the Ligurian Sea where these whales are known to live mostly in areas of around 95,000 square metres.
Meanwhile, on Monday, the whale was also seen in the area of Ta’Ċenċ in Gozo. Gozitan photographer Benjamin Grech said that the words could not express how he felt when he saw the whale crashing into the sea water, and like thunder, one could feel it echoing in the air.
