VIDEO: Firefighters take hours to put out flames at Marsa scrapyard – situation still poses a lot of risks
Members of the Civil Protection Department are still busy trying to put out the fire which spread though the waste treatment plant at the Marsa industrial zone.
The Police said that it was informed of the fire in Triq Garibaldi at round 11.30pm.
Luckily, no one was injured in the accident.
It is understood that a lot of oils and other materials spilled out from the cars which were on site.
tvm.com.mt is informed that part of the road in this industrial zone has been closed off.
Writing on FB, the Minister responsible for Home Affairs and National Security, Byron Camilleri, said that firefighters from the Civil Protection Department spent the whole night fighting the flames. He explained that this operation still needs a few more hours and although the situation is under control, it still poses lot of risks. Minister Camilleri said that for this operation all the equipment which was bought recently for the industrial zone is being used.
In a statement, the Environment and Resources uthority, ERA, said that it will be investigating the case and will provide the Police with any help necessary.
