VIDEO: From mid-September booster shot for residents at care homes and for those who are vulnerable

The Deputy PM and Health Minister Chris Fearne, has announced that from mid-September a booster shot will be given to those who are most vulnerable, including residents at care homes.

During a press conference,  Dr Fearne explained that the residents will be given the vaccine at the care. homes while those who suffer from some condition which renders them vulnerable will receive an invitation by post.

Dr Fearne said that from research to date, it does not appear that immunity among those in the community who were fully vaccinated six months ago, has decreased.

He added that to date there is no indication that a booster shot will be required for the rest of the population.

With reference to giving the vaccine to pregnant women, Dr Fearne said that those who are in the second and third month of their pregnancy can be vaccinated against the virus on the advice of their doctor.
