VIDEO: Restaurants will re-open till 5.00pm from 10th May, among easing of other restrictions
Prime Minister Robert Abela announced that more restrictive measures will be cautiously eased from the 10th May, and therefore restaurants and snack bars will be able to open business till 5.00pm and then they can continue serving on a take away basis.
Speaking during a Castille press conference, Dr Abela said that the country will move gradually to normality so that it will not endanger what has been achieved.
He stated that, following discussions with the health authorities and the easing of measures from tomorrow, restrictions will be also eased from the 10th of May on professional sport, where there is contact, and training may resume. Non-contact sport will continue without spectators. Education on arts and extra-curricula activities and cathecism lessons may continue.
Street markets will also be able to open. With regards to the restaurants, the Prime Minister said that a maximum of four persons will be permitted at each table. After 5.00pm restaurants and snack bars will continue to serve on take-away basis, while travel restrictions between Malta and Gozo will be removed.
He stated that this is a cautious step based on scientific evidence, because the authorities want to protect the health of the Maltese and Gozitans, and to safeguard the summer work of businesses and their workers following their recent months’ sacrifices.
