For the sixth night in a row there have been violent protests in the US which arose after an African American, George Floyd was killed while in police custody. In almost 40 states, curfews have been imposed despite the fact that protesters have completely ignored this curfew with various moments of tension characterising the protests.
The anti-riot police clashed with demonstrators in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia and Los Angeles, and even used tear gas and pepper spray to try and calm the protestors down. Police vehicles were set on fire and demonstrators caused extensive damage to a number of shops in various cities.
The National Guard, which is the branch which serves as a reserve in case of domestic emergencies, said on Sunday that 5,000 of its members were on active duty in 15 states and in Washington DC where the crowds which gathered lit fires and threw stones at security guards near the White House.
