Berlin firemen have managed to quickly bring under control a fire which engulfed a royal palace being rebuilt at great expense in the centre of the German capital.
The Fire Department posted on Twitter that a propane gas cylinder had exploded, and parts of the building burst into flames. One person was injured in the incident.
Some 80 officials from different emergency services converged on the scene. A black cloud was visible from the city centre, and the smoke blackened the building’s new facade.
Police said there was no indication of arson, but investigators will still be investigating this possibility. Re-c0nstruction of this palace started in 2012, and the building will eventually include a museum and cultural centre which were expected to open later this year.
