Timely action by Rapid Intervention Unit members led to the rescue of a dog and three horses which were trapped in a great fire inside a Siġġiewi farm.
At around 9.00 this morning the Police were informed that in a small road corner with Triq Dun Manwel Zammit at Wied Ħesri, a farm was engulfed by flames. RIU members arrived on site and were informed by neighbours that there were horses inside.
After evaluating the situation, the police members entered the farmhouse despite the great flames inside and released the horses at a field on the backside of the farmhouse.
At one moment, the RIU members also heard barking inside and found a frightened dog. The officers rescued the dog from the fire into the road where they calmed down the dog.
Shortly afterwards, four fire-engines arrived on site to control the fire.
Fortunately, there was no one inside the farm when the fire started except for the horses and the dog.
The place was declared a dangerous building as part of it risked collapsing due to the fire heat.
District police officers were also on site to prepare a report on the case.
