WATCH: Families fight it out after women try to take selfies at Trevi Fountain

Two women ended up assaulting each other when they tried to take a photograph near the iconic Trevi Fountain monument in the Italian capital Rome. Their respective families soon joined in, and what had started out as a petty argument soon developed into a full-fledged fight.

It all started when a 19-year-old Dutch girl and a 44-year-old Italo-American woman each wanted to take a selfie from a particular angle, with the Trevi Fountain behind them. Neither of them wanted to give way and move slightly, and they started shouting and insulting each other. Eventually the Police had to be called in to restore order, but the situation worsened when the women came to blows and their respective families also joined the fray.

A total of eight persons were arrested, including three under-age girls – two 17-year-old Americans and a 13-year-old Dutch girl. The tourists were arrested in relation to violence and threats.

This video clip was posted on the social media shortly after the fight had taken place.
