The FBI has confirmed that the corpse found in the Wyoming national park in the US is that of the young woman who was reported missing, Gabby Petito. An official said that forensic tests have determined that the young woman was killed, however they did not reveal any more details.
Petito, 22, was visiting the national park with her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie, 23.
The Police are still looking for the man because he is being considered a person of interest, although he has not yet been accused of any crime.
The couple had been travelling together for several weeks and were reporting about their travels on social media.
Laundrie returned home to Florida by himself in their white van on 1 September. He did not make any contact with his girlfriend’s family or the Police when he arrived. Petito’s family reported the woman missing ten days later.
Meanwhile, a few weeks before this, the police in Utah had been called about a domestic violence dispute involving the couple. Police bodycam footage showed the young woman crying and talking about her mental health.
A Police report later said that Laundrie alleged that Petito had hit him during an argument. However, the Police did not take any action and told the couple not to spend the night together. What happened afterwards remains a mystery.
